Social Media in Education

High School

Social Media is a big part of life, not just for you, but for adults too. I would like to know your thoughts on using social media in education? For example, YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, Google +, Instagram, Snapchat, Vine, Tumblr, text messaging and even Facebook! How can teachers use social media in education both inside and outside of school?

FYI:

  1. I am asking each of you to think carefully about the above question.
  2. Please answer with sincerity and thoughtfulness. I as your educator, am working hard to create a curriculum that is encouraging to my students to promote learning in an interesting way.
  3. I encourage you to not only post to my question, but please post to others responses.
  4. Question #3 is not a requirement, but I highly recommended you respond, as the results could benefit you and your fellow classmates.

  1. Teachers can use social media for education in many ways. You could have a Facebook group in case you needed help or the teachers can remind you to do your homework. In class you could have a Pinterest account to share different pictures. Social media could be used for educated inside and outside of the classroom.

  3. I do not think most social media sites can be very educational. Only a couple are okay for learning. For example, pinterest is a very nice site to express your interests and learn new thins in any subject. Another site is youtube from tutorials to educational videos its got it all! In conclusion only certain sites can be used. As for twitter of facebook... no.

    1. I think ben has a point, some social media sites have no use for education purposes and teachers dont need to use social media for some sites that are unnecessary and not useful for our learning. On the other hand i think pinterest and youtube are good for trying to look up ideas and helps us learn to do different things we didnt know

  4. Teachers can use social media for education. When I was in tenth grade Mr. Baughman used twitter during classes. Everyday we would tweet the answer to our bellringers or research a topic and tweet about it. It was an easy way to find out if we had homework or projects due. Social media can be educational if you go in with the intention of using it for that. Using Twitter in that class only had a positive impact.
